People Behind The Cure

Meet the pioneers driving breakthrough science, bold leadership, and life-changing progress for patients and families.

Maggie Gama, M.D.

Advisor
Dr. Maggie Gama is a physician with a multidisciplinary background spanning internal medicine, pathology, functional medicine, and integrative oncology. Her work focuses on bridging conventional cancer care with a deeper understanding of the biological systems that influence health, treatment response, resilience, and recovery.

Dr. Gama completed advanced training in pathology, including fellowships in Surgical Pathology and Hematopathology, and previously served as a practicing pathologist and laboratory director before returning to direct patient care. Her experience examining disease at both the cellular and clinical level has shaped her approach to precision and personalized medicine.

She has pursued additional training in Functional Medicine through the Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM) and in Anti-Aging, Regenerative, and Functional Medicine through the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine (A4M). Her clinical interests include integrative oncology, cancer prevention and early detection, metabolic health, inflammation and immune function, mitochondrial and redox biology, the microbiome, environmental exposures, and the application of advanced diagnostic and molecular data to individualized care.

Dr. Gama is particularly interested in the intersection between tumor biology and the broader physiology of the patient. She believes that advances in precision oncology will increasingly come not only from understanding the molecular characteristics of the tumor, but also from understanding the biological environment in which cancer develops, evolves, and responds to treatment.

As a member of the Cure Science advisory community, Dr. Gama contributes a clinician’s perspective to the Institute’s mission of advancing scientific discovery, precision medicine, and innovative approaches to complex disease.
