The Birth of Brain Cancer Research Institute (BCRI)
In 2013, a compassionate San Diego family confronted the harrowing reality of glioblastoma, a relentless form of brain cancer. Faced with the limitations of available treatments, they embarked on a persistent quest to accelerate the development of innovative solutions. The result of their resolute vision was the inception of the Brain Cancer Research Institute (BCRI), dedicated to enhancing lives by emphasizing early detection, preventive strategies, and harnessing the transformative potential of regenerative medicine, immunology, and self-regeneration.
Genesis and Leadership:
The organization's board was thoughtfully composed, bringing together individuals whose lives had been touched by brain cancer, whether as caregivers, entrepreneurs, prolific inventors, or glioblastoma survivors, demonstrating the profound impact of the disease within a single degree of separation.
A Journey of Dedication:
Between 2013 and 2018, a multitude of dedicated individuals generously volunteered their time and efforts to transform the initial vision into reality. As time progressed, the board recognized the opportunity to extend their influence and make a more substantial impact by emphasizing patient-centered research, particularly in the realm of precision medicine. This expanded focus sought to provide hopeful outcomes for a spectrum of challenging conditions, including glioblastoma, dementia, and, most recently, respiratory syndromes associated with COVID-19. Although BCRI was the organization's original name, it was subsequently rebranded as CureScience™ in 2018. Furthermore, BCRI achieved 501(c)(3) nonprofit status, cementing its commitment to making a positive impact on healthcare.
CureScience™ Institute has grown to encompass a formidable team consisting of multi-disciplinary scientists and administrators. A central pillar of their mission is to adopt a transdisciplinary approach, focusing on early detection before symptoms manifest and tailoring therapeutic interventions to individual patients. To facilitate their groundbreaking work, the institute operates a state-of-the-art research laboratory in the San Diego area.
